Eleanor Reque
Eleanor Arlene Reque, 83, of Sedalia, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia. She was born on Dec. 20, 1927, on the family farm near Spring Grove, Minnesota, a daughter of Melvin and Louise (Overhaug) Ostern.

She graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1945, and attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, graduating in 1947. On June 17, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, Minn., she was united in marriage to John Sievert Reque, who preceded her in death on July 1, 2002. Eleanor taught school at Lutheran Day Nursery in Chicago, Ill., for four years before moving back to Spring Grove where they had a clothing store and movie theater. In 1964, they moved to Sedalia, where she held several teaching positions in the Sedalia School District. Upon retirement, Eleanor and John moved to Wakata Beach at Lake of the Ozarks. They were founding members of Christ Lutheran Church in Sedalia, and when they moved to the lake they were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Cole Camp. She was active in the women's circles and taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She also played the organ and piano when asked.

She is survived by six children, Carl and Sharon Reque of Raymore, Arthur Reque of Sedalia, Donna and Bob DiPaolo of Lincoln, Neb., Debi and Alan Lempka of Tecumseh, Neb., Tom and Charlene Reque of Cole Camp, Cyndi and Tim Engelken of Topeka, Kan.; 16 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Reque, her parents, Melvin and Louise Ostern, one sister, Lorraine Maske, and two brothers, Wilhem Ostern and Edmund Ostern.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cole Camp, with Pastor Sandy Schlesselman officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Cole Camp.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Lutheran Day Nursey in Chicago or Habitat for Humanity in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp.

Pallbearers will be Eric Frederickson, Zach Reque, Jonathan Reque, Kevin Reque, Cory Barrett, Dalton Barrett, Blaine Engelken, Caleb Engelken, Steven Hostetler, Andrew Losh and Mark Croucher. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicholas Lempka, Dylan Lempka and Lacey DiPaolo Losh.
