Jane Helen (Cordner) Brinkmeyer, 77, of Chanute, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center.

Jane was born with her twin brother Gene Cordner on February 1, 1935 in Bradford, Pennsylvania to Curtis and Merle (Holcomb) Cordner. The Cordner family moved to Chanute, Kansas when Jane and Gene were 3 years old, where they made Chanute their home.

Jane graduated from Chanute High School in 1953. She began working as the switchboard operator at Neosho Memorial Hospital, Chanute, when still in high school. She later would move to Manhattan, KS, California, and Altus, Oklahoma where she worked in aeronautics industry for several years. She returned to Chanute to work as an A.R.T. (Accredited Records Technician) for the hospital. It was during this time when she became reacquainted with Vernon Brinkmeyer, the first boy who had ever kissed her while swimming underwater at the Chanute swimming pool when she was 13 years old. Jane and Vernon were married on August 26, 1966 and celebrated more than 40 years of marriage. Upon their marriage, she became a mom to sons Ed and Kurt. Vernon was the love and laughter of her life. After working at the hospital for several years she then began her career at the Ashley Clinic, working as a medical secretary for Drs. Abbuehl, Ashley, Kihm, Gehrt, and Dr. Robert Haskins. She retired from the clinic after working for more than 50 years in the medical field.

Jane enjoyed life, people, fun times. She was a special lady, one of a kind, a true friend, and brought humor to every aspect of her life and the lives of others. She truly was one of a kind. She and Vernon enjoyed years of traveling the United States during his time as the trainmen's UTU local chairman from 1975 to 1990. In later years, she lovingly cared for Vernon after he suffered a stroke. Following his death she began a new chapter of building friendships and new memories. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing and trying her luck at the casinos with her close friends. She served in various capacities as a deacon and member of First Christian Church and in the community. She knew everyone in Chanute and everyone knew Jane.

Survivors include two sons, Ed, Chanute; Kurt and his wife, Linda, Pittsburg; daughter-in-love, Deni Brinkmeyer, Overland Park, KS; grandson Zach Brinkmeyer and his wife Brandy of Savonburg, KS, granddaughter, Leslie Brinkmeyer, Overland Park, KS, granddaughters, Chrissy, Alisha, Jill, Pittsburg, KS, and two great grandchildren, Shaylea and Brayce Brinkmeyer, of Savonburg; and all of her dear friends, she loved and enjoyed.

She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon, her parents, two brothers, Owen and Gene Cordner.

Celebration of Jane's life will be held, Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 2:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church, in Chanute. Burial will be at Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery.
