Born in 1849, Charles Bowler Atwood grew up in Millbury and trained at architectural firms in Worcester and Boston before building his career in New York. In 1891, he joined Daniel Burnham in Chicago to help design the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. Among his works was the masterful Palace of Fine Arts, which later became the Field Museum of Natural History.
