Gladys M. Burks, 84, of Summerdale, AL, formerly of Muncie, was called home to be with our Lord on Sunday, November 18, 2012. She was born on March 13, 1928 to Harvey and Lydia (Goad) Smith.
She owned and operated Glady's Beauty Shop in Muncie for almost 30 years. She married the love of her life, Robert Burks, on April 19, 1947.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Melba Allred; brothers, Walbert Smith, James Wallace Smith, and William Reese Smith.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Robert Burks of Summerdale, AL; daughter, Brenda Adams; son-in-law, E. Tracey Allred; sister, Beatrice Norman; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Gladys will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2012 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Ave., Muncie. Rev. Hoyt Davis will officiate the service. Calling for family and friends will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
