MRS. REINHOLD BORN
Mrs. Reinhold (Hazel) Born, 80, Waseca, died Friday, October 1, at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital, Decorah, Iowa. She had been ill for three months.
She was born in LeCenter June 14, 1896, to Herbert D. and Alta (Gambold) Eddy. She attended school in LeCenter and graduated from LeCenter High School. She then attended the LeCenter Normal Training School and taught school for two years at Lake Volney Schools and two years at Elysian. In June, 1919, she married Oscar Carpenter. She and her husband farmed near Elysian for 11 years. He died in September, 1930. She moved to LeCenter where she was employed at the LeCenter Creamery and Spors Co. In April, 1937, she married Reinhold Born and they moved to Waseca in May, 1938, where she has continued to live and make her home. Her husband died in April, 1961.
She is survived by a son, Curtis Carpenter, Decorah, Iowa; two grandchildren, Mark Carpenter, at home; Mrs. Mark (Susan) Miller, Dubuque, Iowa; a sister, Mrs. Roy (Merle) Vollmer, LeCenter; a son-in-law, Walter Krause, Waseca; two step-sons, Clarence and Reuben Born, rural Waseca; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Milton (Lillie) Bathke, rural Waseca; nine step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great great grandchild.
Funeral services were Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Evangelical United Methodist Church. Rev. John Miller, former pastor here, now of Millville, officiated and burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Elysian.
Pallbearers were nephews and grandsons, Dale Born,, Herman Kopischke, Gary Bluhm, Roger and Lloyd Vollmer and Milton Bathke, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, a daughter, Alta Krause and two sisters.
She was an honorary member of the Evangelical United Methodist Women.
The Pfaff-Kinder Home for Funerals was in charge of the arrangements.
