Virgil Charles "Rip" Ripley was the son of Bert Ripley and Elsie Prahame Ripley. He married Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Mueller on November 18, 1953 in Bellevue, Jackson County, Iowa at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He and Betty had six children: Mary Jo, Michael Ray, Ronald James, Patrick Denis, Jenifer Susan, and Teresa Louise.
Virgil joined the U.S. Navy on June 25, 1943. He served until April 4, 1946.
Uncle Rip died at home of a "massive coronary" while Betty was outside watering the flowers. She found him and called the paramedics. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Betty told me today that Virgil once told her that he wasn't getting her anything for Christmas because she hadn't used the gift he had bought her the year before. She said "what are you talking about?" He answered "The Cemetery Plot!" She says...how ironic that he ended up there first, using my Christmas gift.
