John Lincoln BLACKFORD, 81, of 3381 Midway Road, a lifelong resident of the Midway & Lafayette areas, died at 8:55 a.m. Saturday, 18 July 1987, in St. Like's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness.
He was born the son of Abraham L. & Margaret (PAUL) BLACKFORD on 14 January 1906 at Lafayette, Iowa.
On 25 October 1932, at Kahoka, Missouri, he was married to Elizabeth 'Betty' BLACKFORD, who died 18 October 1985.
Prior to his retirement in 1970, Mr. Blackford owned & operated Blackford Motor Service in Midway, & also had been involved in midget auto racing throughout the Midwest, participating as an owner & driver. For many years he served as assistant fire chief for Monroe township.
Surviving are a daughter, Norma ZUMR of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a grand-daughter, Carol GROMMON; & a great grandson, Jason GROMMON.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Ed & Homer BLACKFORD, & a half sister, Grace CLYMER.
Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday 21 July 1987 at the Murdoch Chapel in Marion, Ia.
