Jewell Rodgers, 96, passed away on November 13, 2012. Born in Memphis on May 5, 1916 to the late Gennie Gaskins and David Gaskins, a retired Memphis Police Officer with 33 years of service.
Mrs. Rodgers was preceded in death by her husband, John Rodgers, who retired from BellSouth and also preceded in death by her youngest son, Larry Rodgers.
Jewell leaves sons, Ron McSwain (Sylvia) and Mike McSwain (Pat), 7 grandchildren: Randy McSwain, Scott McSwain (Traci), Stephanie McSwain of Atlanta, Dale McSwain of Dallas, Angela McSwain of Kansas City, Michelle Morris of Memphis and Robert Rodgers of Southhaven and 7 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Rodgers will be remembered by one word she practiced so diligently - LOVE! She loved GOD and HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST! She loved all of her family members and constantly told them so! She loved all who faithfully and professionally cared for her Dr. Oakley Jordan, Heritage Place, Methodist Germantown, and Quince Nursing!
Jewell Rodgers loved Southern Gospel Music, frequently attending the "old time gospel and bluegrass" music played at Hernando Museum and Gospel singing at the Germantown Baptist Church MerryMakers Senior Adult dinners!
In short, Jewell Rodgers was truly a LOVER! What a legacy!! Mrs. Rodgers was a long-time, faithful member of Kensington Baptist Church on Winchester Road in Memphis.
Interment to be in Forest Hill Cemetery Mid-town.
