Carl Andrew Marcel 76, a native of New Orleans, a former resident of Houma and a current resident of Bayou Visit, passed away at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 from A.M.G. Specialty Hospital while surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Houma. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, with burial in the church cememtery.

He is survived by his daughter, Scarlette Marie Marcel and companion John Zant and his two children of Lafayette; his fiancee, Elma Pierce and her two daughters, Dawn P. Townsend and Danette P. LeMaire; his sisters, Sylvia Matherne and late husband Charles, Barbara Sullivan and late husband David, and Lydia Colvin; one bother, Wayne P. Marcel and wife, Rowena; one brother-in-law, Alvin Robichaux Sr.; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Marcel Sr. and Genevieve Theresa Berthelot Marcel; two brothers, Lee Marcel Jr. and Ronald Marcel and wife Joyce; two sisters, Marilyn Marcel Falgout and husband Gerald and Brenda Marcel Robichaux.

He was a member and parishioner of St. Bernadette of Bayou Vista and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He owned a Yellow Cab Company, then worked in construction and in the oil field. He also served in the Army Reserve for two years and in the Marine Corps for four years.

He was a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League and loved doing Toys for Tots and playing Santa Claus.

Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma is in charge of the arrangements.

Brenda Oliver Marcel Winders
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 23, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Brenda Oliver Marcel Winders, 74, who passed away peacefully Friday, December 20, 2013 at Camelot of Broussard Nursing Home in Broussard.

Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and resumes Monday, December 23, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. until time of services. A rosary will be recited Sunday, December 22, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Interment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette. Father Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Lafayette, will officiate.

Brenda was born January 14, 1939 to Alexander and Beatrice Olivier Oliver in New Orleans and was a long-time resident of Kenner, Houma and Lafayette. She will be dearly missed by her classmates from the graduating class of 1957 of East Jefferson High School. She worked as a Certified Chiropractic Assistant of Lister Chiropractic Clinic for 15 years. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Nelita Gormen Hooper, CPA, in Houma. She was faithful to her church, enjoyed reading religious books and attending Mass at St. Edmond Catholic Church where she was a long-time parishioner. Brenda enjoyed dancing, cooking, making friends and treasured her New Orleans musical heritage. She adored her poodle companion, the late Francois Neville.

Ms. Winders is survived by her daughter, Scarlett Marcel from her marriage to the late Carl A. Marcel; a twin sister, Brendaline "Crickett" Pelitire of Kenner; a niece, Adrienne Duhon; a nephew, Peter Pelitire III; 7 great-nieces and nephews; two stepdaughters, Gail W. LeCompte and Beth W. Davis; two stepsons, Bill and Bert Winders; 18 step-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved friend Stanley Nichols of Houma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Winders; her parents, Alexander Oliver and the former Beatrice Olivier; a brother, Alexander N. Oliver; a nephew/godchild Keith J. Pelitire; a stepdaughter, Mary W. Drott and a stepson, Carl E. Winders, Jr. The family gives special thanks to her forever friend, Barbara Buras and her many friends including Janet Heim for the companionship they provided.
