Enlisted 27 October 1861 at Woodsville, Kentucky (Carlisle)
as a Private.
He transferred into Kentucky Scouts.
On 27 October 1861 he mustered into "A" Co., Kentucky 2nd Cavalry.
He was transferred out (date not stated).
He was listed as: POW 16 July 1862 (place not stated)
Obiturary

The old ex-soldier, 67 years old, died at the Confederate Soliders home at PeeWee Valley, Kentucky and his body was brought to this city because his widow and daughter, Mrs. Charles B. Smith, reside here. Several other sons and daughters survive him. During the great conflict Lieut. Norvell was given a medal for bravery in battle. On the casket were two Confederate flags. At the cemetery a short funeral service was held, the Rev. T. A. Reynolds officiating.
