Sylvina Jane Curtis was born July 2, 1831 in Temple, ME, the daughter of Amos and Isabel Folsom Quimby Curtis, the second of seven children. She was included in the 1850 Federal Census in Clinton, ME, living in a boarding house and most likely working in the mill. Her occupation was listed as seamstress in later censuses.

Sylvina Curtis of Clinton married Alonzo Moody Bailey (1823- 1903), a tailor from Hampton, Iowa, on July 17 1878 in Clinton, MA. It was his third marriage. They divorced before 1881, when Alonzo married for the fourth time in July of that year.

Alonzo died July 18, 1903 and was buried in Hampton Cemetery, Hampton, Franklin County, Iowa.

Sylvina was the sister of Franklin Curtis (born May 1841 in Temple, ME) of Stow, MA. Her sister Francena lived in Stow with Frank and his family from 1870 to her death in 1902.

Sylvina died in Stow March 17, 1909 at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 23 days. (Her gravestone records the year as 1910.) The death certificate also added that her father, Amos Curtis was born in Pownal, ME and that her mother, Isabel Folsom, was born in Mt. Vernon, ME.

Sylvina shares the Stow cemetery plot with 1) her sister, Francena Ann Curtis and 2) Orison F. Quimby, her half-brother (FAG 106282862), who was born in Temple, ME on Feb. 25, 1821 and died in Stow on Dec. 1, 1904. Orison's grave site is unmarked.
