Reverend David E. Humphrey, 77, of Plainfield Township, died on Monday, Feb. 22, at his residence.
Born in Edelmans on April 29, 1921, he was the son of the late David T. and Martha L. Frack Humphrey.
He was employed as a foreman for the former Blue Ridge Textile, in Bangor, from 1940 - 1956; as a press operator for the Regal Press, in Easton, from 1962 - 1987; and as a bus driver and printer for the Pen Argyl Area School District. He also taught printing classes for the school district. From 1960 to present, he was the owner and operator of Plainfield Press.
He was a member, Sunday School Superintendent, and served on the Board of Trustees at the former Evangelical United Brethren Church, Pen Argyl.
From 1961 - 1963, he was Pastor of Middlecreek Evangelical United Brethren Church; from 1963 - 1970, he was Pastor at Ebenezer Evangelical United Brethren . Church, Lehighton, Evangelical United Brethren Church, Weissport, and Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church, Big Creek. From 1971 to present, he was Pastor at Pocono Union Church, Henryville.
Pastor Humphrey conducted Wednesday afternoon church services at Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home, in Hamilton Township.
On May 30, 1975, he became an Ordained Independent Minister. He was a 1939 graduate of Nazareth Area High School, where he played football and baseball, and was the center on the 1938 Lehigh-Northampton League Football Champion Team. He later was the center on the semi-pro Pen Argyl Night Riders.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
He and his wife, the former Edythe M. Repsher, would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on Feb. 27, 1999.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Joan E. Humphrey Mack of Plainfield Township; a son John T. of Washington, D.C.; a grandson and a granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a brother John T. and a sister Miriam A. Gardner.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 26, at Grace United Methodist Church, 404 E. Mountain Ave., Pen Argyl. Interment will be in Plainfield Cemetery, Plainfield Township. There will be a viewing from 7 to 9 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 25, at the Guerro and Ruggiero Funeral Home, 126 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Pen Argyl, and one hour prior to the funeral services at the church.
