From his obituary .... Morenci, Michigan
James Wilson...was born and reared in Thompson, Windham Co, Conn. Of a family of seven children, Horatio N. Wilson, of this village, is now the sole survivor. James, like his brothers Horatio and Simon, became one of the earliest settlers in this part of the Bean Creek Valley, coming here in 1834, and helped build the first log house, that of Jacob ______. He soon after went back to his native State and April 8, 1838 married Miss Lucy B. Day. He later returned to Michigan followed farming during his strong ____, and in the latter part of his life lived as a citizen of Morenci. His wife was removed by death Jan 15, 1847, giving him a son and daughter. The latter, Louise Wilson, still resides here and proved a great blessing to her father in his declining days. On May 24, 1847, he was again married, this time to Miss Harriet Axtel, who was then recently from New York and employed in school teaching, and for the subsequent period they lived happily together, she being the faithful administerer the wants of the afflicted husband. To them was born one daughter, who died at the age of 12. Mr. Wilson joined the Morenci Baptist Church soon after it was organized, and so highly respected was he by the church that when he could no longer serve in an active official capacity, he was unanimously chosen as honorary deacon for life. He was an honest, upright Christian man, and leaves behind a gracious memory,,,The funeral was held at the Baptist Church...Pastor Garrett conducting the services.
