Ethel Wood, 87, formerly of the Walnut area, passed away at Bickford Cottage in Omaha, Nebraska on Thursday, September 1, 2011. Ethel Emma Wood was born the daughter of Jerry Frederick and Nora (Linkletter) Glissmann, on April 3, 1924, in Pottawattamie County in Iowa. She was schooled in the rural Walnut area and eventually worked for many years as a secretary for the Jean Christensen Insurance Company. Ethel was married to Eugene A. Wood on March 19, 1949 in Omaha, Nebraska. They farmed south of Walnut and became the proud parents of two sons. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and also her neighborhood card club. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, her parents, Jerry and Nora; her sister Jeraldine Karstens; and brothers-in-law, Clifford Beckendorf and Wilbur Henningsen.
Ethel's funeral was held Wednesday, September 7th at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic with Pastor Ken Davidson officiating. The Committal Service was in the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa.
