Soviet painter and graphic artist, teacher, born in the village of Emmaus, the Tver region. In 1931 he graduated from the Russian Academy of Arts (Studio Savinskoye V.E.). In 1932-1933 years of his postgraduate studies at the Institute of Painting, Sculpture, Architecture in Leningrad Isaak Brodsky. In the next 10 years, he taught at the Leningrad Academy of Arts. During World War II, was the chairman of the Leningrad branch of the Union of Soviet Artists, worked in the besieged city, participated in the association "Fighting Pencil". He also owns a home illustrations for classics poem N.A. Nekrasov "Who Lives Well" novel LN Tolstoy's "War and Peace" and the works of A. Pushkin, Gorky and others.
