Augustus Blocksom graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with the Class of 1877 (graduate #2662). He participated in various Indian campaigns, the Spanish-American War (1898), the Boxer Rebellion in China (1900), and the Philippine Insurrection (1900 - 1902).

Blocksom's Indian campaigns were against the Apaches in Arizona and the Sioux in South Dakota. During the Spanish-American War he was wounded in the assault on San Juan Hill. For his actions at San Juan Hill and for his leadership of the 6th Cavalry Squadron against the Boxers, he was awarded the silver star citation.

While a brigadier general, he briefly commanded the U.S. Army, Pacific (Hawaiian Department) during 1918 until his retirement on Nov 7, 1918. Before his retirement, he received a promotion to major general. He died on July 26, 1931.

Note: The General's last name on his stone is incorrectly spelled - the stone records his last name as "Blockson." His last name as recorded in the 1983 USMA Register of Graduates is "Blocksom." His biography on USARPAC (http://www.usarpac.army.mil/history2/cg_blocksom.asp) agrees with the USMA spelling.

An inquiry was submitted to the cemetery administrative office and it reported on July 31, 2014 that the name on the stone is incorrect. A new marker with the general's correct name has been ordered and will be put in place when it arrives.
