Funeral service for Mrs. Catherine Askew Sherrill, 76, of Alexander City, will be Monday, November 12, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Sixth Street Baptist Church. Rev. Matt Haines will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sherrill passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on January 15, 1936 in Sumter County, Alabama to Hershel Gray Walker and Maggie Loucile Pearson Walker. Catherine loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren and was very supportive of them. She was a member of Sixth Street Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, going to yard sales, fishing in her pond and traveling, especially to Panama City Beach. She was also an avid Alabama fan. Catherine was an active member of Total Fitness at Russell Medical Center and enjoyed exercising and swimming.

She is survived by her husband, James L. Sherrill of Alexander City; children, Cathy Askew Dabbs (Victor "Bo") of Daviston, James Alton Askew (Vicky) of Athens, AL, Jinger Fox (Bob) of Carmel, IN and Vig Sherrill (Dawn) of Clinton, TN; brothers, Hershel Walker (Patti) of Alexander City and Tibbie Walker of Jackson's Gap; sisters, Shirley Britton (Jerry) of Alexander City and Annie Lou Hanson (Ray) of Alexander City; sister-in-law, Johnette Walker of Alexander City; grandchildren, Brandy Askew Gray, Brandon Askew, Palmer Askew, Patrick Shields, Taylor Dabbs, Wren Sherrill, Sidney Sherrill and Jed Eaton; great-grandchildren, Austin Askew, Charlie Askew, Clay Askew, Carmen Askew and Parker Mae Eaton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Alton Askew; brother, J.L. Walker; and granddaughter, Madison Dabbs.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be given to Sixth Street Baptist Church Building Fund, 2324 6th Street Ext., Alexander City, AL 35010 or to Alacare Hospice, 33 Aliant Parkway, Alexander City, AL 35010.
