In 1883 he married Hallie W. Williams, daughter of Robert F. Williams of Richmond. Father of Channing Williams Daniel.
A member of the Richmond bar. Began his professional life as a civil engineer but abandoned that calling and followed in the footsteps of his ancestors.
His early education was at John P. McGuire's Richmond School, and later the University of Virginia. His legal education was at Richmond College, where he graduated in 1873. Began the practice of law with his father and later became associated with Judge Edmund C. Minor.
