| Birth: | Oct. 11, 1890 | | Death: | Jul. 2, 1916 |  World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in London, England, he served as a Lieutenant in the 14th Battalion, 9th Royal Irish Rifles, British Army. On night of July 1, 1916, near Hamel, France, after heavy fighting Lieutenant Cather searched for wounded in full view of the enemy. He brought in three wounded men, continued his search, brought in another wounded man and gave water to others. The next morning, he took out water to another man and was proceeding further on, when he was himself killed. For most prestigious gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross which was presented to his family by King George at Buckingham Palace on March 31, 1917.
