Kamnee Koushal Narain
Birth: Jun. 29, 1986
Eugene
Lane County
Oregon, USA
Death: Sep., 1987
Kelso
Cowlitz County
Washington, USA

Kamnee Narain and her mother, Raj, were victims of murder, which remains unsolved.

On September 24, 1987, fishermen found the tiny body of a toddler girl in the Cowlitz River in Washington. Thirteen days earlier, the remains of a woman two months pregnant had been found several miles away. They had both been murdered and were believed to be mother and child.

They were buried in unmarked graves and police continued to hunt for their identities and killer.

In 2007, their remains were identified through DNA testing of relatives and other information as Raj and Kamnee Narain.

Raj was a native of Fiji, who had moved with her husband, Ashok, to Eugene, Oregon shortly after they were married. Their daughter, Kamnee, was born June 29, 1986 in Oregon. Sometime in 1987, Raj's family suddenly stopped hearing from them and became concerned. However, they were unable to locate them.

In 2004, Raj's brother, Jai "Bobby" Prasad, who had emigrated to Australia, began a last determined search to find his missing sister. He searched the Internet nightly and eventually came to America.

In 2006, Ashok's brother in California also was determined to find them. He hadn't seen his brother since April 1988 and his niece and sister-in-law since before then.

In September 2007, Bobby Prasad had the remains of his sister and niece exhumed and taken to Fiji, where the family had a funeral for them. Afterward, the remains were cremated and scattered at sea.

He has started an educational memorial fund in their names so that Fiji village girls don't suffer the same fate as his sister. He has also vowed to see to it that his first granddaughter will be named Kamnee.

Ashok Narain is still listed as a missing person.
