Son of Wiley Hood and Polly Baker. Married Harriet S. Robertson 03 June 1832 in Jasper County, Georgia. Harriet was born 15 Dec 1815 in Jasper County, Georgia, daughter of William Brown Robertson and Polly Williams. She died 10 March 1887 possibly in Bosque Counbty (not confirmed) Texas Josa and Harriett had the following children: William Henry (1834-185), Millie Elizabeth (1838-1926), Sarah Ann (1841-1923), John Alexander (1842) Benjamin Franklin (1845-1930), Susan America 1847), Mary Jane (1849), Joseph Wiley (1852) and Isaac Parker (1854).
During the Civil War, he served as a private in Joshua Hightower's Company, (Randolph County Reserves) Joshua Hood remained in Randolph County, Alabama during the war. In mid 1865, he and his wife moved to Texas, with his son-in-law Benjamin Apling Burdett, who had returned home from the war. Joshua resided in Leon County Texas until his death in 1880. His burial was the first one in the Friendship Cemetery. In 2001, the Friendship Cemetery received a marker from the Texas Historical Commission.
