Vernon A. Casady, 79, passed away on Oct. 28, 2012, in Thornton. Vernon was born on June 8, 1933, in Grimes, Okla., and grew up in Las Animas and La Junta. He attended Otero Junior College in La Junta and the University of Colorado at Boulder. He was a veteran of the Korean War, and worked at Rocky Flats in Denver for 13 years and for RTD for 18 years until his retirement. He never turned down a person in need, had the gift of blarney, and will lovingly be remembered by family and friends. Vernon is survived by his wife, JoAnne (Mascarenas), his sisters Doris (Tharon Garber) and Barbara (Frank Nolin), and his daughters Brenda, Kelley (Ken Giuliano), Trayce, Leslie (Troy Gordon), and sons Doug (Terri Kent), and Brandon (along with Brandon's son, Andrew). He is also survived by 5 other grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and James P. Casady, his brother Leroy Casady, and his grandsons Rory Casady and Brandon Miskol. A Celebration of Life was held a week before his death, where Vernon had the opportunity of visiting with many friends and relatives. He donated his body to science; there will be no services. Anyone who wishes can provide a donation to either HospiceCare of Boulder & Broomfield Counties or the Koshare Indian Museum.
