Professor John Jackson, born in Walston, Lanarkshire, Scotland on July 2, 1803 attended Edinburgh University where he graduated about 1822. He emigrated with the majority of the Jackson family about 1833, including his father Robert Jackson and settled in upstate New York and New York City. He lived in New York City for 50 years teaching various languages. John also studied for the ministry, but did not follow that field, and was a private tutor and teacher for many years, well known. He assisted the Harper's in getting out the revised New Testament.
