Brimfield News, Thursday, June 30, 1927
A telegram received here Friday brought the sad news of the death of Willard Littlefield, a former Brimfield boy. Mr. Littlefield was killed in an accident when an oil truck he was driving was struck by a train near here [Belvidere}. Mr. Littlefield was married and leaves a wife and two children. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar (Cora) Littlefield.
Note: He was survived by his wife, Mahala Allee (Crow) and 3 children: Verla Mae (7), Nathala Doris (6) and Audrey Ruth (1). He was also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Mary E and Howard (last name unknown), as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.. He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar (1906), his mother Cora (1909) and his brother, Adelbert, who died in France in WWI (1918).
We had been told that Grandpa Littlefield died in a train wreck. Pictures have been found. One photo is dated June 23, 1927 and another has a [clearly visible] Standard Oil sign . We were told that his truck stalled on the crossing and the train hit the truck, killing him.
