A portrait and historical painter, he was the son of painter Charles Wilson Peale, Who painted the portrait of George Washington and other notable persons. Rembrandt painted his first portrait at age 13, painted George Washington at age 17. He lived and worked in many cities and traveled to Europe five times. In 1831, He made Philadelphia his permanent home, and was one of the founders of the Pennslyvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the founder of the National Academy of Design. Peale died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in October of 1860 at 83 years old.
