Lucy Backus, 85, pioneer Guymon resident died in Amarillo early Saturday afternoon.

The daughter of Daniel W. and Ellen Hogle, she was born on Sept. 24, 1897 at Watseka, Illinois.

She came to this area in 1904 with her parents who homesteaded south of Guymon.

She was married to Alfred L. Backus on May 5, 1915 at Guymon. Mr Backus died in 1964.

Mrs. Backus is survived by two sons, R. L. Backus of Guymon and Albert Backus of Amarillo; two sisters, Mrs. Maude Phifer and Mrs. Hazel Williamson of Guymon; two grandsons and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Henson Funeral Home Chapel Tuesday at 11 a.m. Dr. Jere Wells, pastor of the First Christian Church will officiate. Interment will be in Elmhurst Cemetery under the direction of the Henson Funeral Home of Guymon.
