Venelia Ann Carter Stewart, wife of Dr. W.K. Stewart, died Saturday, December 9, 2006, at the age of 68, from complications due to West Nile meningo-encephalitis. She was a native of Springfield, Missouri, but had been a resident of Pass Christian since 1966.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Blanchard Carter and Mary Venelia Carter and her grandparents Walter David and Jessie Irene Nicholoson.
She is survived by her husband and three children, Shelly V. Stewart Cato and her husband Clark of Yazoo City, Mississippi, Scott Carter Stewart and his wife Patricia of Melbourne, Florida, and Carter W. Stewart and his wife Monica of Birmingham, Alabama. She also had eleven grandchildren, Causey, Sterling, Stewart, Caleb, and Elijah Cato of Yazoo City; Rachel, Hyde, and Carter Stewart of Melbourne; and Elson, Bradford, and Frances Stewart of Birmingham. She also had one brother, Michael Scott Carter and his wife Sherry of Shawnee Mission, Kansas.
Ann began her career with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Missouri, where she met her husband while he was attending medical school, and after which she worked as a registered nurse. She then devoted many years to her family, afterward returning to school at the University of Southern Mississippi where she attained an Associate Degree in Interior Design. Later, she acquired a real estate license and helped misplaced people find homes after Katrina. Her family and friends remember her as energetic, giving, caring, constant, and unselfish. She was an avid animal lover and also leaves behind a beloved cocker spaniel, Madison.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2006 at the family's home, 1105 E. 2nd Street, Pass Christian, MS.
A memorial service will be held at Pineville Presbyterian Church in Pass Christian, Mississippi on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 11 a.m.
She will be buried at Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City, Mississippi in a private ceremony.
