James Tate, 77, of Portland, died at 7:00pm on March 18, 1919 at his home.
Dr. A.D. Bridges, of Portland, prononced death caused by Lobar Pneumonia, duration of 5 days. The informant was R.P. Boone of Portland.
James was born October 13, 1841, in Augusta County, Virginia, the son of Warren and Iuda (Hamlin) Tate. He was married but no wife's name documented. James was a farmer.
Arrangements were under the direction of Leo Boone of Portland with burial in the Portland Cemetary.
James came to Missouri from Augusta County, Virginia and settled in Callaway County in 1823.
Residents of the area met in Lewis's home to formulate plans for the Old Auxvasse Nine Mile Church. The church was officially organized on June 1, 1828.
