Mads Madsen is Buried Tuesday

Blair Farmer, 82, Came to this County from Denmark, 65 Years Ago

Ill since Jan. 15 and hospitalized since Jan. 21, Mads M. Madsen, 82, well-known farmer south of Blair, died Saturday morning.

The body was removed to the Campbell Mortuary, Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at First Lutheran Church, the Rev. H.C. Jorgensen officiating, and burial followed in Orum Cemetery.

Mr. Madsen was born Apr. 18, 1865, in Denmark, but had spent most of his adult life in Washington county. He came to America in 1883 and for a time worked for Otto Nelson near Orum.

Mr. Madsen and Miss Johanna Jensen were married at Fremont Sept 5, 1889, and took up residence on a farm in the Sutherland School district southeast of Blair, where they resided until 1913. They then moved to a farm a few miles north and west of their first home, and it had been the family residence since Mrs. Madsen died May 31, 1934.

The Madsens were the parents of 11 children, two of whom, Soren and Leslie Grover, died in childhood. Surviving Mr. Madsen are two daughters, Mrs Chris Korshoj (Esther) of Herman and Mrs. Ed Mencke (Ella) of Blair; and seven sons, Robert, Harry, Edward, Elmer, Nels, and Walter Madsen, all of Blair and Albert Madsen of Herman. Walter Madsen was taken ill the day before his father's burial, and is now at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Other survivors include, 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren, also a brother and a sister.

MADS M. MADSEN RITES JAN. 27th

Mads M. Madsen, old settler in this county, passed away at 10 o'clock a.m. at the Blair hospital following an illness of less than two weeks.

Deceased was born April 18, 1867, in Denmark, and came to this country in 1883 and sice that time he has spent most of his time in this county. On Sept 5, 1889, he was married to Miss Johanna Jensen in Fremont and the young couple started farming in the Sutherland school district west of Blair where they resided until 193 when they moved to their farm northwest of there. Her they have resided since. Mrs. Madsen died May 31, 1934.

Those who survive are Robert of Blair, Albert of Herman, Harry of Blair, Mrs. Esther Korshoj of Herman,Mrs. Ella Mencke of Blair, and Edward, Elmer, Nels and Walter of Blair. All attended the funeral rites except Walter who was taken ill the day before his father's burial and is in the Methodist hospital in Omaha. In addition to the children mentioned above are thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the First Lutheran church January 27th with Rev. H.C. Jorgensen officiating and interment, under the supervision of the Campbell Mortuary, was made in the Orum cemetery.
His parents were Soren and Bertha Marie (Mary) Nelsen Madsen.
