MILLIKEN, WILLIAM R.
Age 88, of Bethel Park, on October 1, 2007. Beloved husband of Catharine S.; loving father of Janet (C. Vaughn) Strimlan, William R. (Cheryl) Milliken, Jr. and Wendy Vietmeier; devoted grandfather of Katherine Klein, Courtney Wiegand, Kristen Foster, Alexis Conlon, William R. Milliken III, Sara Milliken, R.J. Bill studied metallurgical engineering at the University of Pittsburgh from 1938 to 1941. Due to World War II and other family obligations, he did not complete his degree, instead starting his long and successful career in the steel industry with a job in Duquesne Steel Mill. His meeting of his future wife, Catharine Sturm, who was the secretary to the Dean of Women, further highlighted his time at Pitt. His loving grandchildren have fond memories of the song "My Girl's Too Good for You, She Went to Pittsburgh U" and many other old time ballads, which Bill shared on family car trips. Bill is best remembered for his love of his family, his kindness to those less fortunate than himself, his hard work on his horse farm and love of the American Quarter Horse, his achievements as a specialty steel salesman and his enjoyment of his children and grandchildren's accomplishments. A Memorial Service will be held noon Thursday at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 301 Curry Hollow Rd. Pleasant Hills. Interment Jefferson Memorial Park.
