WELLINGTON (CNS) -- Richard R. Longfellow, 50 , of Wellington, died at 8 a.m. today (Sept. 16, 1975) at Hoopeston Community Memorial Hospital. He had been a patient for one week.
Born Sept. 22, 1924, in Hoopeston, he was the son of Earl and Lota Longfellow Sr. He married Mary Jane Regan in Jan. 1946 in Hoopeston. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Rosemary) Slinker of Lafayette, Mrs. Robert (Paula) Barth of Cissna Park and Miss Elizabeth Kay Longfellow of Wellingon; five sons, Richard Jr. of Ashkum, George of Wellington, Henry, Tim, and Tom, at home; six brothers, Earl Jr., Arthur "Cotton", Frank, Gilbert and Max, all of Hoopeston, and Lester of Cissna Park; three sisters, Mrs. Tilden Longest of Ambia, Ind., Mrs. Calvin Hudspeth of West Lafayette and Mrs. Willard Bruens of Hoopeston; and four grandchildren.
Mr. Longfellow had been a supervisor at the John Deere Co., Vermillion Divisiion in Hoopeston for 25 years. In 973, he was named "Boss of the Year" by the Hoopeston Jaycees. He also served as president of the Allied Industrial Worker's union 105 prior to his promotion as plan supervisor. He served in the Air Force in World War II and was a member of Ira Owen Kraeger American Legion Post 384 in Hoopeston.
In the late 1940's and early 1950's he was a Hoopeston softball and independent basketball coach. At Wellington, he was a very successful Minor, Little, and Pony League coach and brought Wellington into the Hoopeston Pony League. He was very active in the Hoopeston Pony League where he served as President and Chief Umpire for several years. He also was timekeeper fo Wellington High basketball games. He was a past Scoutmaster of Wellington Boy Scout Troop 47 and was inducted into the Piakeshaw Council's Order of the Arrow.
Mr. Longfellow was member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church I Hoopeston.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Raymond J. Boyle officiating. Burial will be at Floral Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hamilton-Orr funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family hs requested that any memorials be made in the form of donations to the Hoopeston Community Memorial Hospital or Hoopeston Pony League.
Pallbearers will be Sid Longfellow, Steve Bruens, Geike Longfellow, Ronnie Longest, Max Hudspeth, Ronnie Longfellow, Lester Longfellow Jr., and Earl Longfellow III.
