PIONEER WOMAN PASSES AWAY

Mrs. Mary Begley, One of Omaha's First Settlers, Has Joined Her Husband.

Mrs. Mary Begley, widow of the late John Begley, died at her home, 1933 South Tenth street, Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock.

Mrs. Begley was one of the first white women to come to Omaha, arriving in this city with her husband in October, 1854. Mr. Begley entered government land on what is now the site of South Omaha, where the family resided until 1884, when they came to Omaha and later removed to Sarpy county. Mr. Begley died last fall and Mrs. Begley then came to Omaha. There survive her seven children, John and Daniel Begley of Springfield, Neb., Mrs. Mary Tracy of Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. John Flynn, Mrs. Kennelly and Mrs. Patrick Culkin of South Omaha and Mrs. John Sheahan of Omaha. Besides her children, her descendants number twenty-nine, twenty-seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will take place from her home Thursday morning at 9 o'clock to St. Patrick's church. Interment at Holy Sepulchre cemetery.

MRS. BEGLEY'S FUNERAL

Many Pay Last Respects to Pioneer Woman.

The funeral of Mrs. Mary Begley, the pioneer settler of South Omaha and widow of John Begley, was held at 8:30 this morning from her late residence at 1933 South Tenth street to St. Patrick's church, Rev. Father T. J. Smith officiating. Interment was at St. Mary's cemetery. A large number of friends and acquaintances were in attendance.

Mrs. Begley was 76 years old and was one of the pioneer residents of the city, having lived in Omaha and South Omaha since her 30th year. Her husband died at the family residence last October, since which she had been in constantly failing health.
