Norman Haack, 82, Bird City, Kan., died Thursday morning, Sept. 4, 2003, at Cheyenne County Hospital in St. Francis. He was born Dec. 8., 1920, in Auburn, Neb., to Paul and Ida (Laue) Haack and as an infant moved to Bird City, where he attend Mount Pleasant country school.
He married Vernetta J. Duitsman on Dec. 3, 1944, in the St. John Lutheran Church and moved into the house they shared for nearly 59 years.
Norman loved farming and together Norman and Vernetta operated farms in both Kansas and Colorado. He retired the Colorado farm a few years earlier to enjoy working from home. The day before his death, he was farming and making
plans for drilling wheat. He enjoyed traveling and visiting his kids and
grandchildren, and enjoyed many sight-seeing trips across the United States and internationally.
Norman and Vernetta loved playing in a pinochle club with dear friends for more than 50 years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church all his life. As a young married man he enjoyed baseball and played pitcher and first base for
teams in Bird City and Seibert, Colo.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 8, at St. John Lutheran Church, Bird City, with Pastor Ron Roberts officiating
