Alice Jean Salasovich
Funeral services will be held Thursday November 1st at 10 a.m. in St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church for Alice Jean Salasovich (nee Januszeski), 76, who passed away Monday in the presence of her children.
Alice was born on July 6, 1936, in Lorain, Ohio, a daughter of Felix and Alexandra (nee Kulas) Januszeski. She worked as a bank teller at First Federal Savings and Loan for twenty years through 1969. At age 59, after raising her family, she partnered with two of her sisters to found a successful furniture business, "The Board Room."
Alice enjoyed spending time with her extended family, especially her sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren. She was particularly fond of orchestral music, technology, good food, conversation, art, and traveling--especially to visit family.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church where she served in many capacities, including running the school library, volunteering at the school, and keeping the Church ledgers for decades.
She is survived by her adoring children, daughters Cynthia L. (L. McKinney) of North Hills, California and Sandra M. (Rick) Ilcisko of Amherst; and sons Richard M. (Brooke) of Alexandria, Virginia, Joseph P. (Karen Sarkis) of Arlington, Virginia, and James A. of Boulder, Colorado. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Avery McKinney, Audrey, Leah and Nathan Ilcisko, Pascal Salasovich, and Marjan Salasovich.
Alice was preceded in death in May of this year by her loving husband of 44 years, Richard P. Salasovich.
Friends may call Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue in Lorain with Parastas services observed at 6:00 p.m. The St. Nicholas Altar and Rosary Society will recite the rosary immediately following the Parastas to conclude the visitation. Funeral services will begin Thursday at 9:15 a.m. with Panachida services in the funeral chapel. The Divine Liturgy will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, 2711 West 40th Street in Lorain. The Very Reverend Nicholas R.A. Rachford, J.C.L. pastor of St. Nicholas parish will officiate.
Alice will be buried in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, Ohio.
The family encourages contributions to either St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, the American Red Cross, or the American Cancer Society .
