John William Sexton
Birth: Oct. 9, 1949
Death: Sep. 9, 1982
Wisconsin, USA

My family was so very lucky to have this young man in our lives - it was only for a short while before his death in a motorcycle crash, but thirty years plus after his loss, John is remembered as a hard worker, a man with character and intent, and an all around good guy.

John was a long-haul trucker by trade; we have had many, many truckers in our line and I know how hard these men and women work. It seems that he and my sister were always on the road - again, something I identify with as having trucked with my own husband -, and it was always a pleasure when we would look through the kitchen window and see the two of them pulling up for a 'day or two drop by.'

The photos on this page are all from John's last visit; while visiting with my parents and myself, we realized that we were low on camera film. This being before the digital age, John said, "Come on, Rhonda - show me where a K-Mart or something is around here where I can get more film."

Well... I climbed on the back of the motorcycle that you see in the photo on this page, and I'd say that John covered the four mile distance to a store in oh, about 2 minutes flat. =) When I told him to "Turn right here," he mistakenly thought that I meant turn RIGHT HERE, which is what he did, and we ended up in a senior citizen's garden, which did not please her all that much. She chased us off her property, we got the film, got home (safely) and I told my sister, "You travel THOUSANDS OF MILES A YEAR with this guy?" =) Actually, John was a careful driver despite that little anecdote, and it was ironic that his death would be due to (according to witnesses) his bike being ran off the road one night. The other driver was never found.

Two of the photos on this memorial page were found in my mother Jeannie's personal effects, and in a family not known for hanging onto material belongings, photo albums, etc., I think that this fact in itself proves that over three decades after his passing, John remains loved, and missed.
