Daughter of James FLEMING and Elizabeth Matilda WILSON. Wife of John Scott APPLEBY.
Mrs. Anna C. Appleby, widow of John Appleby, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jane Kurtz, near Shirleysburg, June 10th, the result of a stroke of paralysis. At the time of her death she was past 76 years of age, born in Dublin Township, May 1, 1846. Anna C. Appleby was the daughter of James and Elizabeth Fleming. She was married to John Appleby who died Jan. 25, 1911. For 13 years Mr. Appleby was Steward at the County Home at Shirleysburg, where his wife was know for her great kindness to the inmates and was greatly loved by all of them who came under the supervision of the Appleby's during that time. Mrs. Appleby was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church at Shirleysburg for many years. Surviving are eight children who are T. Bruce Appleby, of Decorum; Mrs. O.B. Colgate, of Shirleysburg; J.C. Appleby, of Clearridge, Mrs. J.M. Kurtz, of Shirleysburg, J.A. Appleaby, of Clearridge; H.C. Appleby, Polo Ill.; e.W., of Altoona, and R.R. of Orbisonia. Three children are deceased. Three sisters and two brothers also survive. They are: R. M. Fleming, Shade Valley, Harper Fleming, Saltillo; Mrs. Joseph Gray, Shirleysburg; Mrs. Rachel Foreman, of Concautville, Pa. The funeral services in charge of Rev. Cowan of the Presbyterian church were held at Neelyton church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with interment in the Neelyton cemetery. Undertaker A.J. Barben of Mount Union conducted the funeral.
