John was a son of David Cowan Sr., born 1755 and died Nov. 1826 who was a Lt. in the 10th NC Regiment, Ramsey's Co., and Celia "Jenny" Garrison, born 1755 and died in 1814. They are buried in Ora ARP Cemetery. Mary "Polly" Garrett was a daughter of William & Nancy Ross Garrett, who are buried in the small cemetery at Warrior Creek. Children:
