Bruce was born to John and Eva (Niemi) in Grand Rapids, MI. He attended UofM, a member of Delta Sigma Phi, and enlisted in the US Navy.

Bruce was a chef and was deep into his Finnish roots. One of his famous Pulla Bread (Finnish). Every Christmas, he made it and if he wasn't in town for Christmas, he sent it.

In the 1980s, Bruce and his then-wife, moved to Colorado where they opened a bakery in Estes Park. Eventually, they closed the bakery, but Bruce remained residing in the Denver area...an area he truly loved.

In the mid 2000s, Bruce was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins. The treatment took a toll on his heart and he made a decision to have heart surgery to extend his life. Eventually, he went into congestive heart failure.
