Actor. Conley, who appeared regularly on television since the 1950's, will best be remembered as storekeeper Ike Godsey in The Waltons from 1972 through 1981. He attended Loyola University in Los Angeles where he studied theater. In 1945 he joined the U.S. Army which put his education on hold, though he continued to perform in Army shows and entertained at officers and NCO clubs. Following his military tour he returned to Loyola, later transferring to Arizona State University where he was cast as an extra in 'The Sound of Fury' and made such an impression on the director that his character was expanded to a feature role. After graduation he became a second lieutenant in the Army and was wounded in battle, receiving a Silver Star and Purple Heart. Upon his discharge, he returned to Los Angeles and continued his singing and acting career. His first TV role was in 'Big Town' in 1955 and went on to appear in such TV series as 'The Adventures of Jim Bowie', 'Lassie', 'Casey Jones', 'Dragnet', 'M Squad', 'Gunsmoke', 'Dennis the Menace', 'Mister Ed', 'Felony Squad', 'The Brady Bunch' and 'The Beverly Hillbillies'. Among films he appeared in were 'Crime of Passion' (1957), 'Juvenile Jungle' (1958), 'Blueprint for Robbery' (1961), '80 Steps to Jonah' (1969), 'Cast Away' (2000) and 'Blind Obsession' (2002). Conley, who was also a successful businessman and at one time owned a string of real estate offices and a restaurant in the San Fernando Valley, died of natural causes. (bio by: Louis M.)
