My mom got me interested in family graveyards even as a teen. We would visit historical sites and wander through the cemeteries. She would point out the timeline of the Spanish Flu. She traveled back home to visit the gravesite of Charlene Richard, the little Cajun Saint. That has become a special place for me now. Kind of weird that we didn't bury mommy. We hope to have a foot stone added to her father's grave.
My aunt lost 2 babies. Mommy would talk about her little niece, occasionally. When I go to those graves, I start crying the minute I step out of the car.
We participate in the Wreaths Across America Christmas wreath program. A wreath for every military grave. Say their names, never forget.
As a volunteer, I worked in a pet graveyard in Houston. I would read a poem for attended burials. That is a tough reading. I have homed MANY pets. Sadly even in good health, it is a short life. My profile pick is one who only lived 4 years. He still breaks my heart and makes me laugh. My mom called him her little nurse. I like to think they are in a rocking chair together now.
