Flowers left for Edward Canby
Brigadier and Brevet Major General Canby, you served your country well and without fanfare from the time of your graduation from West Point in 1839, to your murder in 1873. You were shot dead while under a flag of truce, and did not even have a chance to die fighting. Proof that the American Indian was not always noble and peaceful. Our war against the plains indians may indeed be questionable, but there is no question that you were murdered in cold blood. A dedicated career soldier like yourself deserved a much better fate. Rest in peace, General.
