Flowers left for Eugene Bullard
Mister Bullard, I chose the flag of France because I consider it an appropriate choice. The French gave you the opportunity to fly a fighter plane in combat against the Germans, for which you were decorated. Unfortunately, when the U.S. entered the war in 1917, you were ignored by the U.S. Army and the War Department when you attempted to join the U.S. Air Service. The racism that existed in the U.S. at that time was truly a horrible thing. It would have been a privilege to serve with a man of your skill and gallantry. Officially you were credited with at least 2 aerial kills. Unofficially, I am certain you shot down enough German planes to qualify as an ace. In terms of pure courage and dignity, you Sir will always be an ace. Rest in peace and I wish you well.
