Flowers left for Andrew Goodman
Saturday marks the 50th Anniversary of the death of a friend. It was on June 21, 1964 that Andrew Goodman, the bravest young man I have ever known, along with James Chaney and Michael Schwerner, was murdered in Philadelphia , MS by the Klu Klux Klan (KKK). They were members of the organization Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), commonly called "Freedom Riders". They rode the buses to places in the south to help people register to vote. I do not think they knew how dangerous it could be behind enemy lines and that losing their lives could be possible. I did not know Michael or James, personally, but I wish I had. Andrew would now be 70 but he sacrificed growing older to help people he did not know. The mid-term elections are coming up in November and so is Andrew's 71st birthday on November 23rd. Remember Andrew, James & Michael.
