Flowers left for Stepin Fetchit
BTW, On the subject of stereotypes, the character played by Morgan Freeman in one of my favorite films, Driving Miss Daisy, could also be called a stereotype, but it was played with such skill that it was not offensive. And it may have also served to introduce a generation of young people to a character like no one they had ever met in life. Likewise, and in one of the best performances ever given by a black actor the terrifically talented actor Rupert Crosse gave what should have been an academy award winning effort in another favorite film The Reivers. He was hilarious, but he also produced a layered performance that touches the viewer, and shows the many facets of humanity that exist in all of us, of any color. So, you have your place, and you were talented.
