Flowers left for Sidney Manning
When I was a boy I had the privilege of meeting you once, at your home, near where I grew up. I remember a cold, winter night, and an old man lying beneath a faded quilt in front of an open fire, looking up at the shadows dancing on the ceiling. I shook your hand. You were frail, but cordial, and I had no idea at the time, not really, that I was speaking to one of the true heroes of World War One. Later, I looked up your citation, and realized what you had done under heavy fire. In your youth, you must have been a tiger. Nice to have met you Sir. And thank you for what you did. RIP
