Stedman (1841-1930), giving a detailed description of the Battle of Ream's Station, which took place on 25 August 1864 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. Also included is a transcript of a letter from Confederate General Robert E. Lee (1807-1870) to North Carolina Governor Zebulon Vance (1830-1894), praising the contributions of North Carolina soldiers during the battle. According to a note by James Henry Lane (1833-1907), who made this copy of the speech in 1891, the copy is an excerpt of the full address, which was delivered by Stedman in Wilmington, North Carolina.
