Appointed as a Captain & Assistant Adjutant General of United States Volunteers on November 25th, 1863; accepted the appointment on March 23rd, 1864; promoted to Major & Assistant Adjutant of Volunteers on July 15th, 1864; brevetted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel of Volunteers on March 13th, 1865, for gallant and meritorious services during the War; honorably mustered out of volunteer service on January 4th, 1866.
