Flowers left for Jennifer Jones
Jennifer, In my romantic youth, like so many other young men, I fell in love with you, or I should say I fell in love with the image of you that I saw on the screen. I remember being really touched by the scene between you and Bill Holden where the two of you swim across the bay in Hong Kong in one of the most romantic films made during an era of romantic films. Life, as we discovered, was not really that way. Not romantic. It was a film, carefully crafted to evoke the emotion that I felt then, but it is still a favorite of mine. My, we thought, how wonderful it must be to be Bill Holden, who was impossibly handsome then, and be able to make love to Jennifer Jones. But you did not marry handsome men. You married men with money and position, and one only hopes you loved them. Then you gave up acting, and we gave up romance. Life is strange. But we remember you so well, and loved those moments you gave us. The spitfire opposite Greg Peck, and the lovely young woman in Portrait of Jenny. Still among my favorites. RIP
