Flowers left for Datus Abel
Datus was the just older brother of my 2x great grandfather. Please email me for more family information. March 4, 1877, Datus wrote a letter that family genealogist H. Thompson "Uncle Tom" Stock states was written to John Henry Abel, the son of his brother, Almon. At the time, John Henry lived in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Actually, it seems as though the letter was written to his brother and not his nephew. So, Uncle Tom pondered that there was another Datus Abel, perhaps a son from a first marriage???"Dear Brother...I take this opportunity to redeem the promise that I made of writing to you. I often think of the pleasant time that I had with you, the brothers, and your families and would enjoy a stay with you if my health had permitted. My health has been improving for the last few months and would like to hear from all of you. Enclosed I send you a likeness of our Uncle John and Aunt Lucy, a good, honest, old-fashioned couple. I spent a week with them last fall. They are in poor circumstance like the most of our family. I feel today that the good Lord has been very merciful to us as a family in the past and that we have abundant reason to honor his name. We had very pleasant weather the past month and now we are in the midst of sugar-making. I wish that you could, all of you, come to the Sugar Eat with us. I think that we might have a good time. Don't get out of patience if I don't write but keep on writing. I will endeavor to write to the other families soon. Yours..."_______________________________________This note was in the file of Pat Klee Logan: "Margaret and Datus married in Perry and lived in Perry for several years on different farms -- the Blair place for eight years at one time. They bought the Abel place on River Road and lived and died there. After Margaret died, Datus married Kate McMurphy, from whom he was allegedly glad to be subsequently divorced..."
