Flowers left for Joseph Hall
Joseph Henry Hall was born at Milwich, Staffordshire, England and was the fourth of five children of William Hall (1846 - 1891) and Emily nee Mellor (born 1854) to be baptised at Milwich. He was baptised on 12 June 1881. The family emigrated to Canada about 1883 and settled in Winnipeg. Two more children were born there. William Hall died on 20 Jan 1891 of his injuries after being viciously kicked by a horse at his place of work the previous day. He was foreman at the Manitoba Cartage Co., where he had worked for 8 years [source Staffordshire Chronicle 14 Feb 1891 Page 5 column 6]. The 1901 Winnipeg census lists Emily and her seven children in Winnipeg (with her year of birth incorrectly recorded). Joseph Henry is recorded as born 3 May 1881 in England. N.B. his next youngest brother was born and baptised at Milwich in 1882. In the 1911 census Joseph Henry Hall is listed as born May 1882 and immigrated 1887. There may have been date errors introduced when the census enumerator copied the details into his official records - which are the ones seen by researchers. Alternatively, Joseph or Clara could have mis-remembered these dates resulting in his birth year being subsequently recorded as 1882, not 1881. There is no record of a Joseph Henry Hall born in England around May 1882.
